I'm observing some weird traffic trends from Twitter.
It seems like when I first started using Twitter, it was a really good way to generate traffic for your website, or more importantly your blog. I’m noticing a slight change in the behavior of these visitors. Here’s what’s happening…
Traffic From Twitter is Down
I remember in the early days of Twitter when I would get a few hundred clickthroughs to my website every month. This is way down. Fewer people are clicking through.
Twitter visitors don’t stay as long and bounce rate is high.
It appears that a lot of visitors from Twitter will click through and leave immediately. My guess is that this is probably because of the massive number of links and a limited number of people seeing those links.
Traffic from Facebook is still strong.
Visitors from facebook have stayed pretty constant accounting for around 20% of my total site traffic. In addition, visitors from facebook stay on-site longer and visit more pages.
Most alarming fact… This has no reflection on profitability.
In the last thirty days I’ve had 3 prospects referred to me on Twitter while only 1 on Facebook. These were from contacts that I’ve networked with offline as well as online.
What do you think? Has anyone else noticed similar trends?
