Fear and 4 other reasons people avoid using online tools to grow their business.

There is so much head trash associated with really getting your marketing message out. As soon as I bring up syndicating videos on youtube, blogging, or connecting with your market on facebook I always get blank stares and a pile of excuses.
I don’t typically preach. If someone wants to ignore the amazing oportunities available to make more money and help more customers, I can accept that, but a lot of the excuses come from people who SAY that they are passionate about growth, but what they DO is ignore tremendous growth opportunities.
Why is this happening? I have 5 theories and I invite you to add your own reasons in the comments.
- Time – Lots of people throw out the excuse that they are busy and don’t have time to promote their business online. Let me pose a quesiton… What are you doing to promote your business that doesn’t take time? Okay now another question… Are you really being productive with your time? What is your definition of productive? Isn’t taking serious steps to grow your business productive?
- They don’t think it works – That’s just silly! There have been huge fortunes built through the online acquisition of business, so I don’t buy it. It works if you DO it. If you don’t take action then of course it won’t work.
- They don’t know how – Here’s my #1 tip for learning how to do ANYTHING you can’t figure out how to do, both with online and offline endeavors. There’s this website you might have heard of http://www.google.com. It has a box where you enter text. Put your question in there and see if you can find an answer. I’ll bet you $100 there are answers to 99.99999% of the questions you have. If not, there are tons of people who make their living helping people figure out how to promote their businesses online (I’m one of them).
- I don’t want to lose my privacy – Here’s a reality check… You’ve already lost it. Anything you do online is indexed by Google and anyone can find it. Whatever content has been created about you is already searchable (go ahead, type your name into google and see what comes up). The only solution is to create the content that YOU want people to see. You have to control your personal brand or someone else will do it for you.
- Fear – This is a head trash issue that we all face. What if I fail? What if something terrible happens? Ask yourself, ‘what’s the worst that could happen?’ Now, would you rather have that happen while you’re doing everything in your power to succeed or while doing nothing, because the chances of it happening are about the same either way.
